March 2018

Hello everyone! We may not have had this much snow in February, but we did have a dusting didn't we! The studio has a regular "snow" policy to send a YouTube lesson, or work via FaceTime with a student when inclement weather occurs. Simply call the studio phone (250-885-4630) at your regular lesson time and have a video lesson with your teacher, rather than cancelling the lesson. As you know, I regularly work via FaceTime with students in other cities and countries, and so this is also a wonderful option for local students when there is poor driving weather, or they are ill.

A Very Happy March birthday to Declan! We wish you a wonderful year ahead and know that these years during the teens will bring new adventures into your life!

Our Baroque study continues with most students working or learning about the Baroque time period.

Students may decide before March break if they would like to trade their practice stickers (10) to be in the draw for a new book of music.

Pictures like the one below are precious aren't they? One day our children are grown and these pictures are a beautiful memory. This is how I must have looked to her when I play the piano a long time ago.

Students interested in performing in the next BCRMTA recital should let me know now as the date is April 7, 2018. This is especially important for students preparing for exams and would also serve as a very close performance to festival.

I am planning to hold a studio recital in May or June. Details will be coming soon.

The studio will close for Spring Break as of the evening of March 16 unless your student has been otherwise notified. Some students will attend over Spring Break due to upcoming city performances, or due to consistency from absences. Otherwise for all other students the studio will reopen after Easter Monday, April 3rd. There are NO lessons the week of March 19, 26 or on Easter Monday.

Thank you for prompt payment of tuition due the first of each month. If you are paying by cheque, please drop of the cheque the week prior to the 1st lesson of the month if your lesson falls late in the first week. It may still be dated to the first. This saves the studio numerous trips to deposit. The preferred method of payment is e-transfer however cheques are also fine. Your teacher loves to spend her time planning creative teaching lessons for your child rather than on administrative duties.

Interesting fact: Some students are learning the Blues scale this month and learning to improvise along with their teacher in this mode. It is important that music lessons are engaging and enjoyable, and so the studio is constantly striving to provide sound training while using technology, music games, and creative ideas to keep students motivated and learning.

Thank you for reading the latest blog, and please contact me anytime with questions. The studio answers emails and calls weekdays between the hours of 8 am to 8pm, and questions arriving on weekends will be answered the next business day.

Please watch for upcoming information about the end of term in June, and concert information.

Sincerely,

Paula Cain, Associate, Victoria Conservatory of Music, BC Registered Music Teacher
